  1. It's about a 20 - 30 minute walk from the Pisa Centrale train station to the Leaning Tower. There's also a bus from the station that takes about 10 - 15 minutes (the #3 bus - 0.80 euro each direction).

As a suggestion, you might consider going to the Leaning Tower in the morning, and then taking the train from Pisa to Lucca for most of the day. The old town in Lucca has much more to see than the rest of Pisa (which is a nice town though): http://www.welcometuscany.it/tuscany/luc...  http://goeurope.about.com/od/lucca/a/luc...

It's about a 20 minute train trip between the two with four trains per hour (2.30 euro one-way): http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html

  2. We went on a day trip to Florence and stopped in Pisa just to see the tower....not much else to see in Pisa. It was about 20 min to walk to the tower from the station. We took a bus though...they run all day. There are tons of signs showing you the way. Remember to bring toilet paper, hand sanitizer, and put a lock on your backpack!

  3. Its gonna be packed!

Just like the guy above me, his comment is correct. A nice gingerly stroll becomes an aggressive hunt to get there if you walk. The reason being the streets are meticulously inconvient. The bus will cut through them, not like butter though, and end up there. If you walk, expect many kids to be bustling around as there's the University close by. And if you've ever seen a group of Italian teens or young college students, things get loud and obnoxious fast.
