How far is it to walk from Penn Station to the LIRR?

Question

My mom will be arriving via Amtrak at Penn Station. She needs to transfer to the LIRR (which I think requires a subway ride to another station). She has bad knees, and usually takes a cart in airports to walk to the gate. How far will she have to walk from the time she gets off the Amtrak from upstate to the subway, and then from the subway at Flatbush to the LIRR? I am trying to get her to take a plane instead.

LIRR is in penn station...are u sure shes not arriving at grand central???  20/30 dollar cab ride from GC to Penn..you don't say where she coming from going to....your description sounds confused on sequence of trains/stations..e mail me if u want  w more info
