A lot of people avoid flying out of Guatemala because of the very high taxes levied on tickets originating in that country. El Salvador gets a lot of extra airline business as a result.

Hi im from Guatemala. It is about 4 hours and 30 minuets from California and the cost of a plane ticket usualy costs around $500 dpends what time of the year you are going

I lived for several years in Guatemala and did that flight lots of times (San Francisco, too).   United has an evening flight, takes about 5 hours total, costs depend on time of year, but generally run about $500 round trip.  Other options are Continental, and TACA.  TACA sometimes flies through El Salvador with connection to Guatemala City.  I like www.tripadvisor.com because you can open up the expedia, orbitz, cheaptickets, cheapflightsabroad, etc... all at the same time to compare.

I'm not sure when you are leaving, but here's a great flight deal for you on spirit air.  It takes about 4 to 4 1/2 hours and is 2193 miles. Normally the ticket would cost about $400.  It all depends on when you are going.  I would recommend going between November and February (the non-rainy season), however It is more expensive to fly in November and December.
