  1. It is quite far away to the south.

I see only three ways to get there:

    * By car: Get ready for a looooong journey, more or less 1000km, i.e. 16 hours minimum. The roads will be terrible the last 300km and you will have to cross 2 tough borders.

You would have to drive from Vienna to Zagreb (Croatia), from Zagreb to Split on the highway, along the coast on the new highway towards Ploce (still in Croatia) and then at some point turn northwards to Medugorje which is in Herzegowina.

The problem is that no one will rent you a car. Car rental companies prohibit crossing the borders to Croatia and Bosnia with rental cars (because they get stolen).

    * By plane and car: Take a plane from Vienna to Split and go then to Medugorje. Rental cars will be expensive. Alternative: Take a bus from Split to Medugorje. There are good ones with A/C and terrible ones.

    * By prilgrimage bus: There are regularly going buses from Vienna (at the Suedbahnhof, the South Railway Station) to Medugorje. They tend to be quite nice buses which feature darkened windows, A/C, toilets, etc.

DO NOT attempt to shortcut through Bosnia, i.e. taking a route through the inland instead going to the coast and then along the coast! The roads are abysmal and you will be slowed down to a crawl because of trucks, trailers, farming vehicles, villages, etc
