  1. Couple of hours both by train and by car.

If you stay in one of the 2 cities I suggest you book 1 night in the other's one and sped 2 days there travelling by train.

Train is better because connect you downtown to downtown and there is no problem for parking car (traffic is really terrible in both cities).

  2. I seem to remember it being only about 2 hours by train.  Both are beautiful.  There is so much to see and explore in Rome.  Go see the Forum and the Vaticun and then just get lost in the city and find all the hidden little churches and treasures.  Florance is beautiful.  Great food and Wine.  You can see the sights, go window shopping past all the super expensive stores, do a wine tasting, enjoy the country side.  The statue of David is in Florance as is Botticili's Birth of Venus.

  3. It's 2 hours in an express train, 2-3 hours by car.

I think train (especially in the early summer morning) is the best experience. A car can be stressful-especially if you are the one driving.

  4. The distance is about 250km direct "as the bird flies" (150 english miles) or about 2 hrs either by train or car.

If you're not familiar with the "italian way of driving" (very different to the USA for example) I'd strongly recommend taking one of the frequently running trains which are connecting the centers of the cities, unless you're out for an adventure: Driving in italian cities might be fun or a horror trip to you  ;-)

  5. For train travel check:

There are slow and fast trains (3 or around 1 hour).

By road you can travel by orinary road (via Cassia) or express road and the distance is 280 km.

Beware:express road are in Italy on payment.

  6. Train - you can see the country, not be stressed and it's cheaper.  @30 euro from Rome to Forence, 2.5 hrs.

  7. It is 2 or three hours by train or by car but I suggest you the train. If you have only few days I sugegst you to select one or another. If you stay one day in Rome and 1 in Florence, you don't get anything from both while in two days in Rome you can see something.

But to have a small idea of the city you need at least 1 week in Rome and 5 days in Florence.
