  1. 7 miles

  2. If I recall correctly, you will need a cab, but they are easy to get.  You are almost always better off to sign up with your ship for such excursions as you have more security.  The big advantage is that if they take you, then they do not sail without you if you're late.  If you go on your own, and miss the ship, you are on your own as far as catching them elsewhere.

The Cayman Islands in my opinion were not much to visit.  Mostly just banks and very overpriced jewelry outfits.  You are best to do something on the water or beach enjoying nature.  The town is not much to tour.  I did the snorkeling and rays, and it was really memorable.  That is worthwhile!  Have fun, and don't miss the boat!

  3. Once you get off the tender,  there will be small buses all over the place.  My advice is to go to Sea Grape Beach. $10 for a chair rental for the day.  They have a water sports place right next door where you can do the parasailing etc.

  4. It would be a long walk to 7MB from the tender pier.  You can easily get a cab or public bus [check out GC's website].

No need to use a ship's excursion in GC - it's one of the easiest and safest ports to do on your own.  The one thing to be aware of is that this is a tender port and ships tend to leave this port in mid-afternoon, so you won't have an excess of time by the time you tender in, get where you're going, and tender back.  AS LONG AS YOU STAY AWARE OF THE TIME, you can go on your own.

There are many places to rent "toys"/chairs etc.  [Check out Red Sail Sports' website.]

If this is your first visit to GC, I'd recommend you do the Stingray City tour.  It's an unforgettable experience.  This can be done with many private vendors [Capt Marvin and Nativeway are two of the most popular, and I've done both.]

For more info on what to do in GC [and all your other ports] from experienced cruisers, go to CruiseCritic.com, click on "Boards", then "Ports of Call".

If you're also going to Cozumel, that's another easy port to do on your own.  But if you're going to Jamaica, DO NOT go out on your own - even the ship's tours here are no guarantee of safety, but it's the only way to go.

    Have a great trip!
