After reaching at the stn. what will we have to do to go to the Piazza san Marco. How tourist go to the hotels from the stn ?By vaporitti or is there any other means of communication? We will enjoy the ride if such is the case. But worried about luggage. Is it okey to stay in hotels near the Piazza(we are thinking of this place only for easy communication, but I know it is too pricey) , if not in which location should we stay to enjoy venice avoiding the crowd(of course in a budget of 60-80 euro

  2. It's like a five or ten minute ride by Vaporetto.  Don't know about Hotels in Venice, we stayed at Mestre

  3. Venice city and Mestre stn are about 10 minutes away by train.

Venice city itself has a station, called "SANTA LUCIA": take the train and get off there.

I don't suggest to stay in hotels near the piazza for 3 reasons: it won't be cheap, it's not very closed to the station (relating to the transportation means...), but after you have an accomodation (anywhere else in Venice) and you've deposited your luggage, it will be easy and enjoyable to reach the Piazza either by foot or vaporetto.

  4. You can't go from Mestre to Venice by Vaporetto (the Boat)

Mestre is on the mainland, connected to Venice by the Ponte della Liberta' (Freedom Bridge), using a car, a bus or a train.

Train and bus start from Mestre railway station and arrive to Piazzale Roma, in Venice, the distance is about 4-5 mls.

In Piazzale Roma you can take a vaporetto or a water taxi.

The ride by train or bus from Mestre to Venice must but around 1.5 Euro, maybe a little more.

The vaporetto is a little more expensive, so instead to buy a single ride ticket better to buy a day or a week pass.

The hotels near San Marco square are usually more expensive but even if you will find something not so close to the square and cheaper you can walk everywhere in a few minutes, so don't worry.
