I have heard Ben Tre is a beautiful place from my friend who is from there. I am American and I was wondering if this was a good place to go? I know its not a tourist place but is it alright to go to.

I heard Can Tho is also a good place and was wondering if I go from HCM to Can Tho can I then just get a motorcycle to Ben Tre? How long would that ride be?

What are some good places to go to in Vietnam that are near or a day or two from Ho Chi Minh? If you could recommend some activities to do while I am there that would be helpful as well.

  1. Just give you the kilometer sheet between the cities in Vietname here http://www.bumblebeevietnam.com/engversi...

  2. I am in Ben Tre right now and it is very beautiful. We seem to be getting more tourists all the time.

Ben Tre is about 70 km SE of Saigon. If you have a motorbike, head south out of the city on Rt 1 to My Tho. Take the ferry from My Tho to Ben Tre. Until they get the bridge from My Tho built, the ferry is the only option.

We pass thru a town called Can Tho on our way home from the airport. I don't know if it is the same town that you referenced, but it is about half way between Saigon and My Tho.

If you make to Ben Tre, ask for me at the market just outside the ferry dock, Anh My Rick.

As for things to do in or around Saigon, Shop, go to the water parks, visit the Cu Chi tunnels, drink bia hoi and enjoy yourself.

  3. Bến Tre is a province in Mekong River Delta, made of 3 islets at the river mouth of the Tiền River. This is where you can go for touring fruit gardens, enjoying the village air and every traditional thing of the Delta. Coconut is the speciality of Bến Tre.

The road from HCMC to Bến Tre town is 86 km, which takes about 3 hours by bus, or by motorbike. From HCMC, you may cross Tân An town (Long An), Mỹ Tho City (Tiền Giang), Rạch Miễu Ferry, Bến Tre town.

From HCMC to Cần Thơ, you needn't cross Bến Tre, because it does not lie on the way to Cần Thơ. If you're at Bến Tre and you wanna go to Cần Thơ, please take the ferry again to Mỹ Tho, then follow the Highway no 1.

Vietnam is not too large and it takes over 30 hours for the route from HCMC - Hà Nội. However with open tour bus which runs longer, you may get to Hội An for 23 hours from HCMC. It's an ancient town preserved for tourism and cultural activities only. Come here to enjoy a quiet and historical life inside the old town. Around the town, you may experience the best resorts in Vietnam located at Cửa Đại area, Mỹ Sơn Holy City (holy city of Champa Kingdom), Ngũ Hành Sơn Mountains (on the way from Hội An to Đà Nẵng) and Đà Nẵng City (biggest city in Central Vietnam), a city with river, mountains and beautiful beaches. Tours and open tours are all sold at Hội An.
