  1. this is determined using a series of graphs and charts, based on the length of the pipe runs, and the size of the pipes.  Also, the flow rate of the pump needs to be considered too.  slower water releases more heat, and thus, can have larger spaces.  All of these factors (including pipe spacing) are used to meet your heating demand, based on how many BTU's you need in your floor.

    if you want rule of thumb...  12"...  many hot water heating systems use a generic 12" center rule, and then they adjust the fluid temperature to match...

    12" is the most common spacing if you just want to slap it in there without any proper sizing...
