How far out into the ocean can I go without the risk of shark attack?

I live in Oregon, which is on the North Pacific Ocean range(obviously). I was curious as to how far into the ocean I can walk/swim without the risk of a shark attack.

I heard up to three feet? Is this correct? If not, could you please tell me the correct answer?

Also, what kind of sharks inhabit that particular area of the ocean? Great Whites, etc?

Thank you!

  2. Click on the link below, this woman was bitten in less the 2 feet of water.

A large bull shark attacked and injured a woman as she stood in less than 2 feet of water at a South Carolina beach.

when you go to the site below just close the annoying ad by clicking the X in the box, the site is safe.

  3. Since childhood, all of us Ft. Lauderdale natives have been taught just the opposite.  The shallower the water, the more of a risk.  Sharks generally venture into shallow water at night, to prey on small fish.

Now, the chances of a shark attack are very small, minuscule.  I'd not really worry, so long as you don't take stupid risks like swim in a school of them, or punch one in the face for fun.
