  1. Who cares how far you hit it?!  Its the score you post on the board and nothing else that determines your worth.  If you can consistently score in the 30's for 9 holes, you'll be a decent high school player in most places.

  2. It is not about how far you hit but how good you hit it, distance does not make a good player.

  3. Distance is probabaly ok but there is a lot more to golf than hitting the ball far.  You need a short game.  Remember, a putt counts for the same amount of strokes as a drive does.  As the saying goes, drive for show, putt for dough.

  4. Drive for show...Putt for dough$$

  5. I'm sure many high school golfers (male) can hit the ball 275-300 yards, but as other posters have mentioned, the only thing that matters is score.

We had a thin Asian kid on our golf team who only hit 180 off the tee and his drives were always low with a weak looking draw, but he was always in the fairway, never got in trouble and was about a 8 handicap - so he was great!

    Good luck.

  6. Drive for show. Putt for dough. The length of a drive is not a factor in determining who will make the golf team. The ability to score should be the criteria. If the matches are the " match play " fore mat the ability to scramble is uppermost for a member. Today, most high school and college teams work on total aggregate scores. One has to be consistent .

  7. Golf is not about how far you can hit the ball, it is about how many times you hit it.  As long as you keep the ball in play and make some pars your distance should be plenty.
