Im running in some new power and coax cables and wondered what the minimum distance the cables should be apart - I dont want any interference to my TV signal!

Should the power socket and coax output plate be a set distance apart?

  1. I would not get too worried about this problem.  You could probably run a cable tv coax right next to a power cord for 10 feet and you would get no AC interference on the TV signal.

Separating signal cables from power cables is good practice but there is no exact distance.  Just try to do your best to keep them away from each other as much as possible.  If you look at the mess of wires that is behind most home entertainment centers, you'll see power cables and signal cables all over the place going every which way usually without a problem.

By electrical code, AC outlets and low voltage outlets (like your cable jack) do need to be kept separate.  1 or 2 feet is probably more than adequate.

  2. I agree with Daniel in that it most likely wouldn't be a problem but it is good practice to have them cross at perpendicular angles rather than run alongside each other. This will minimize any interference. Some highend cables although rare are not shielded but in general most are very well shielded and shouldn't be susceptible to interference.
