How far should i be hitting...?

about how far should i be hitting my 5 iron, 7 iron, and 3 iron. im 14 and i dont know how far the average player hits. i hit my 5 around 150, and 3 iron around 200 (that one i just estimated how far i hit but in that ballpark). and i have no idea how far i hit my 7. how far does the average person hit these three clubs?

  1. For an average golfer that hits pretty well, (at least that's among our group of golfer friends), 7 iron is 150-160yds, 5 iron is 170-190 yds, 3 iron would be around 180-220yds.

    A lot of this depends on whether you are hitting off the tee, or from a bad lie on the ground.

    More important than what others hit, golf is an individual game where you play your personal best, so what ever distance you hit, that's the club you should use.  What you DON'T want is to try and get distance by forcing the swing and end up with a real bad shot that doesn't do straight. (and very short)


  2. It doesn't matter.  Everyone's game is different.  My brother is two clubs longer than me on any tee or approach shot, yet I'm a much better player than he is.  I'm not bragging, he would say the same thing.

  3. There is really no average.  This is all about you and your swing anyway
