How far should well be down?

I'm putting a well in, i live in wisconsin, How far should i go down,

It has rained alot this summer so i don't think it should be far?

Just let me know what u think?

  1. It depends on the type of well, soil structure and intended use and the level of the water table.

    Sandpoint wells are most commonly used for irrigation, and can be 10-25 feet depending on your water table.  For drinking, potable water wells are generally deeper.  And you want to drill it deep enough so that you do not have to pay again when there is a local drought.

    Call your local well driller and ask his advice.  If you are feeling lucky, call your local zoning office.


  2. The depth of the well is controlled by the upper level of saturation.  This will be controlled by geology, topography and local climate.

  3. No one here could know the answer to that.  The working depth of a well depends a lot on the rock formations at the well site.  How far down you have to drill depends on where the aquifer is located.  You might have to only go down 100 feet, or you might have to 300 feet or more.  All of this depends on the rock under the ground where you intend to drill.

  4. On the news, Wissy(Wisconsin) is raining a lot like you said. I say you do it 50 ft down to MAKE SURE.
