  1. Around 3 hours plus or minus 30 minutes in a personal car and 4 and a half hours in public transportation.  Public transportation should be about $5, a taxi about $100.  If you are going from a hotel, you can probably take the interbus shuttle for about $30.

  2. The above answer is good providing all goes well! But for those who have driven a lot in Costa Rica, know better. I will add, allow lots of time!

That highway (34) is traveled a lot since it is the main road for all Coastal towns. Truckers, busses, heavy equipment, all travel that road, besides the fact it is always being worked on, not counting a few new bridges being built along the way.

Accidents happen all the time that literally will bring traffic to a standstill and make a 3-4hr trip into an 8hr.

  3. I have to agree with both answers.  Time in Costa Rica is relative.  A minor accident will bring traffic to a standstill in no time. Ticos won't move until the traffic officers and insurance company come in and do whatever it is that they do.  This will cause hours of delay.  What does this all mean?  In Costa Rica, expect the unexpected. I was once driving to Manuel Antonio from San Jose.  There was a sign that said bridge in need of repair.  When I got there, there was no bridge!  Talk about needing repair.  If you get stuck in traffic on the coastal highway, enjoy the scenery.

  4. Depends on the traffic and if there is to much traffic is the same thing going in car or bus because you could be stock in traffic for hours.
