Will this afford me a nice flat 1 bedroom or shared, a leased car such as a alfa romeo 147 and a nice lifestyle. Ill be 24 years old so taken into account food, insurances etc what am i looking at. I liek to party but dont drink alot so i wouldnt waste on booze. Lastly, with a degree in criminology from Toronto and internship expeprience am i being too optimistic to start off at this. Please no sarcasm im young and just starting so obviously i am naive in areas. Last i am dual citizen so no visa issues.

  1. Although you would be able to afford to rent a flat in the outer parts of Glasgow, it would be better to rent a room in a shared flat in the centre of Glasgow. Then you have easy access to the nightlife etc of the city.

I advise you not to buy a flat as prices are too high and I fear they will fall soon.

  2. Take a look at a web site called www.upmystreet.com this will at least tell you about the area you want to move to ie, house prices, unemployment, council tax.

Also try www.rightmove.co.uk for apartments in the area.

    Good luck, take care, Matthew.

  3. Wow, I would say no, but if you got a place in an area of Glasgow that was not so popular to live in then the prices would be lower and I guess you might then make it, but although 25 grand sounds a lot it isn't when you start spending and live in a city, Good Luck

  4. you might struggle with the high rents these days.

i would think glasgow would be more expensive than lancashire and i can just about manage.

  5. I would say that you should be ok on that wage, obviously it depends what area you live in etc. I would say it is cheaper to share than rent by yourself. You can try looking at http://www.gumtree.com/ at prices of renting over here. And as the answerer above said http://upmystreet.com is good too. I earned less than £25000 and managed to live just fine renting in Edinburgh, which is generally same kind of prices as Glasgow, and I own a car that I pay a loan on.

    Good luck, Scotland is great!
