With gas prices in the U.S. averaging around $3.60 for regular and $4.20 and up for premium. It's obvious that people would adjust their spending just to full up their vehicles. I think that the more gas we consume the more the gas prices will rise. Maybe if we consume less then gas prices will fall. But with all this spending at the pump, i think more people should try taking public transportation to get around. For the people who have started doing so, i know they have seen a significant amount of money saved each week. Many people won't try doing this because of their lifestyle, but if your lifestyle can't adjust, just keep spending at the pumps to suit yourself. But if your unable to take public transportation, try driving less, car pooling or fill your gas tank at (half) instead of (full). What plans do you have in place to counter the rise in gas prices?

  1. Like you  said, lifestyles are hard to adjust in today's busy society, especially in rural areas, where, as the previous answerer pointed out, public transportation is extremely hard to find. I live in a tiny town, where I don't even think there is public transportation. I've only seen school buses, no public buses.

I think the direction the world needs to take is to research alternative forms of fuel (renewable) and develop and lower the prices of cars that can take this fuel. I'm aware there's a couple hybrid cars out there, like the Toyota Prius, but the cost of one of them right now is quite high and my parents seem unconvinced that buying one will save us money in the long run. I could try driving to places less, but I think that's an unrealistic goal, so I guess just trying to persuade my parents to switch to hybrid cars. -sigh-

  2. obviously you don't buy your own grocery's. every time gas go's up food go's up.

there is no upper limit on gas prices. as we now have a global economy it will probably level out at the equivalent of $6 or $7 a gallon or a little less than they pay in Europe.

  3. BY THE SUMMER IT WILL GO UP TO $4.00 MINIMUM. I THINK PPL SHOULD CARPOOL, OR BETTER YET RIDE A BIKE! OR WALKING IS THE BEST! TAKE A WALK TO THE PARK, OR AROUND UR NEIGHBORHOOD! GET EXCERCISE!!!!

  4. The best answer that I have found to beat some of the cost of gas is the fuel eco system. I just installed a fuel eco system on my car & am now saving 15-20% on gas. Not only does the eco system save on gas but it also cuts down on harmful exhaust emissions (more green friendly) & gives more pep when driving. My dad installed one on his truck & now it performs almost as well as a car & he is saving 15%. You can check it out at www.fuelecosystem.com. 5. i say we should just take over the oil in the middle east.  Those rich arabs don't need the money.  The ragheads just blow up each other so take the oil they want miss it.

  6. lets hope for $8.00-$10.00 per gal maybe get some of those duma@@ hummers and monster 4x4's of the road

  7. Public transportation is a wonderful thing....if you live in a major city...roughly 85% of the US has no public transportation

Food is important.. but it has to be moved from producer to market to consumer....and that takes fuel....

filling your tank half full costs you more money in the long run..because you fill more often..

What will I do?... what everyone will do, stay home, cut out movies and entertainment.. where I live you can already see the effects.. many of the movie theaters have closed already.....

  8. Gas (petrol) is currently $8 a gallon here in the U.K. and it's starting to have a real impact on people's perception of the "energy problem". Many people I know are starting to adjust their behaviour, conserve fuel, drive carefully, not make unnecessary journeys. Gas is going to get more expensive due to oil depletion. Food prices are being affected, and will continue to rise. I don't think people yet realize the true scale of the problem we are facing.

  9. In European countries where oil companies do not receive huge subsidies, gas prices are even worse.  Fortunately for them, those countries were built before the age of cars and are generally set up to be traversable on foot.

In America, it's not so easy.  Much of our growth was built with the idea of expansiveness, and now you need a car to get just about anywhere.  This country would do well to start adopting more compact communities (neighborhoods and commercial zones side-by-side) and good public transportation systems if we want to maintain our standard of living.
