i want to travel the world, but with no set time limit and without the bureaucracy of visas and the like. a real adventure, as opposed to a fabricated and controlled one like a working holiday. i guess europe should be easy, but what about if i were to go out further? would i be taken away instantly by some power mad soldier for crossing borders without the right paper junk?

  1. Unfortunately, for an adventure like this, you will need money.  This would most probably entail "working" your way around the world.  In order to work in another country, you would need a work permit.  In order to get a work permit, you will need a passport with the requisite visas.  If you have loads of money, and won't need to work, just cough up the dough and buy your visas.  Because, yes, without them, you could get in lots of trouble.  You really don't want to go to jail in some other country.  Ever see Midnight Express?  ;)

  2. chances of that happening is high.

Power mad soldiers and border guards do that when you do have the right papers they would be passing out with excitement if they caught you!

  3. Crossing borders always requires the 'right paper junk', unless you are prepared to live with the consequences of not having your papers in order.  One thing I have learned in all of my travels is a great respect for the rules and laws of the countries I am visiting.  You can still have the freedom and adventure you crave, without placing yourself at risk.

  4. without the proper documents you would be turned back if you're lucky and at your own expense

not a good idea to mess around with foreign entry procedures

  5. you bet you would

you wouldn't get far without cooperating with the bureaucracy

  6. I'd love to do the same, but reality tends to get in the way! There are some countries where you don't need a visa, and others where you just pick up a visa when you arrive, but I haven't found a simple list of which is which.  You'll probably just have to go to the Foreign & Commonwealth Office site, and plot a course country by country.
