In not too long a relative of mine is giving me their '91 Nissan 300zx twin turbo and he has misplace the car's guide. I was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about this car including how much horsepower it contains. (A link to a site containing more info about this car would be greatly appreciated.)

  1. Nissan says it has approximately 306hp but I just estimate it to 300hp. Just want to congratulate you on becoming the owner of such a great car. Take care of it. My friend has a Z31 300zx turbo. We're planing to build it and upgrade it.

  2. Stock roughly 300hp Yes, as said above.

These are really nice cars and also fairly cheap.

I was looking into buying one for awhile but now I am more interested in a R32 or R33 Skyline.

  3. Stock over 340 hp, easy enough to have 400+ hp. Stock cars are electronically limited to 155 miles an hour. Not a good idea to take old weathered tires that fast. Not a Good car for beginners they are difficult to work on and left side turbo the engine has to be removed to get it off. That car is old now so when you get it make sure you put it back into the best shape possible that may take thousands of dollars just to replace fuel injectors repair injector wiring and replace everything under the timing belt covers. Don't forget to clean debris out from between the radiator and A/C condenser. 300zx tend to suck up junk off of the road. There is Lot's of potential and speed in that car just be careful. And it is best to look a gift car in the mouth. (don't look a gift horse in the mouth) does not apply 300zx can be a money pit in many ways. Going to college? save your own money sell the 300ZX and buy a new Rogue or Sentra. Trust me these are sage words of advice.

  4. 300hp .....Find out when the 60k maintance was done. Its important because it replaces timing belt, water pump, cam seals, thermostat, radiator hoses. This is one of the most expensive scheduled maint items. If you can't do it yourself, look to drop about 600.00 for parts and labor. I have to tell that this is not a car those who aren't mechanically inclinded. The parts are expensive and the Z32 (300 zx 90 - 96) is very tune sensitive. 5. WOW your lucky. They are nice and fast cars

  6. The answer above is correct as long as it is a manual transmission model.  The automatic tranmission model was approximately 270 hp with smaller turbos matched to the A/T characteristics.

The best info. I've ever seen on the car was a special edition of "Road & Track" published in 1989.  It has over 100 pages of info. about the car.  Try looking on Ebay.  Good luck and have fun!  Check the insurance before you accept the car.

  7. 300hp

More info worth knowing would be that it's a 3 liter V6, the block is made of cast iron and the heads are made of aluminum. The engine designation is VG30DETT. It was the first application of electronically controlled variable valve timing. The car has won ALOT of awards. They are reliable as h**l. You need to use premium (91+ octane) gas on the TT model.

  8. A stock 1990-1996 300ZX twin turbo puts out 300hp with a 5 speed manual and 280 hp with the 4 speed automatic. They are amazing cars that pulled sub 6 second 0-60 runs like there was no tomorrow. The twin turbos had variable valve timing (in 1990 a year before Honda even introduced as VTEC on the 1991 Acura NSX) and they came with HICAS four wheel steering. By the way, $600 for a 60K mile service is normal for any 6 cylinder vehicle with a timing belt. This car (along with the Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 and Toyota Supra twin turbo) were high tech wonders. They were also super fast even by todays standards and very reliable (well at least the Z and the Supra are reliable). The problem with these cars were that they priced themselves out of the market. I remember that a Base N/A 300ZX without any options was going for $39,000 by 1996. Turbos were $45,000 plus. Too much money back then when a Corvette could be had for similar money.
