  1. don't know about gerbils but hamsters are receptive to a male within 24 hours of giving birth. They shouldn't be bred before the age of 4 months and even then only if you know their genetic background because there can be nasty faults in hammy lines which can cause deformed blind babies. Their gestation time is, I think about 17 days. Professional breeders will never breed a female more than twice because of the detrimental impact on her lifespan. Also, a hammy should never be bred for the first time over the age of 8 months as her pelvic bones fuse together and she could die in labour.

  2. Gerbils mate straight after birth, to avoid yet another litter remove Dad before a litter is born. Generally for female hamsters, the ideal age to start breeding is at 4-6 months. Whilst you can just keep her breeding litter after litter, this will greatly shorten her lifespan. It's best to wait about 3-4 months before you breed her again.

  3. Gerbil can have a litter just over a month again and again lit the female is 20 months old, this is bad for the gerbil as if cause stress it best to keep same s*x pairs, if you don't know what your doing and don't have the money for vet trips

  4. A Hamster can reproduce as soon as she has a litter. So make sure to seperate. You dont want a hundred hammys running around :)
