I was biking down the road shirtless on my bicycle at about 25 MPH one summer. My bike had a speedometer.  A horse fly - which is a bigger animal than a house fly - and may be faster, managed to catch up to me an bite me.  It was able to then draft me, buzzing around, until i saw it in my rear view mirror and hit it.  I didn't manage to kill it, but it was stunned enough that it couldn't get back in my slip stream.
