Question:

How fast can a surfboard go? Does it depend on how fast the waves are coming in?

Anybody know the world surfboard speed record? On a related note, do ocean waves always come rolling up the beach at the same speed? Does the height of the wave affect how fast you could surf?

Thanks, everybody for answering.

  1. i dont know any world records or actual speeds, but it is effected by the size and speed of the waves. some waves are alot faster than others.

  2. The larger the wave, the faster it moves.  That is why you see in extremely big wave surfing, the surfers need to use wave runners to tow them into the waves because they are just moving far too fast for the normal human to be able to paddle into.

  3. the speed and size of the wave AND how fast the surfer is. The better guys out there are way faster and can catch faster waves. I would have to guess the fastest is when someone is towed in, maybe 35-40 MPH. But then they could be going even faster when they drop-in. So my answer is... idunno
