  1. who cares

  2. Up to about 40 mph but an electric car is healthy for us and the Earth!

  3. That just depends on the car.  The fastest mass-produced EV is the Tesla Roadster (sports car), which goes up to 125 mph.

  4. It is not how fast but what is the range. At about 200 miles and as the battery's age that will decrease.

  5. I'm going to be converting an old Honda Civic to 100% electric soon and I've calculated top speed to be around 85MPH.  There aren't many places where it's going to be necessary to go so fast.  There have been electric vehicles designed to go over 200MPH but for practicality and range it's prudent to keep the speed within the legal range on the road.

  6. An electric car can be designed to go as fast as you want. The speed record for electric cars is over 300 mph. But the limiting factor for regular use are the batteries. As another answer pointed out, there are electric dragsters that are faster than comparable nitro cars. But, electric cars have another disadvantage....safety. There are many safety issues that need to be addressed before I buy/build/drive one.

  7. pooper

  8. Tropical,

Keep us all posted how your Civic turns out, especially the range you get from it. I'm interested in converting a car to electric someday.

  9. They used to do about 80-100, but that was back in 1981.

  10. 15 km/hr.

  11. There's an electric dragster that outperforms traditional dragsters. The Tesla is also pdf [pretty darned fast.] Speed isn't a problem. Endurance is.

Even the old 1911 electric buggies could hit over 100mph!
