  1. Today, almost all elevators use one of two types of AC motors: the most common are geared motors for elevators moving at speeds up to 500 feet per minute (153 m per minute), while direct-drive motors are used for elevators moving at higher speeds. Some modern high-speed elevators move at up to 2,000 feet per minute (610 m per minute).

    500 feet per minute = 5.7 mph

    2000 Feet per minute = 22.7 mph

  2. How fast do cars drive?

Your question is asking the same thing - different manufacturers, different load capabilites and different building sizes all influence the speed of the elevator.

  3. Generally passenger elevators in buildings eight floors or less are hydraulic or electric, which can reach speeds up to 200 ft/min (1.0 m/s) hydraulic and up to 500 ft/min electric. In buildings up to ten floors, electric & gearless elevators are likely to have speeds up to 500 ft/min (2.5 m/s), and above ten floors speeds begin at 500 ft/min (2.5 m/s) up to 2000ft/min (10 m/s).

  4. Objects fall at 32f ps ps,,so elevator going down is less, more like half, or one quarter of that, is also variable, so about 2ft ps , on an express lift may be different than a simple people mover.

That would be 5mph or something.
