They can go up to almost 200 mph in a straight line. They average around 145-170 per lap. (Our course on the Detroit River is a 2.5 mile course by the way)

I have been the flag man for the last 15 years for the Detroit Gold Cup Hydroplane race.

I am talking about the Racing turbine single driver boats. I think the guy below me is referring to more of like a catamaran similar to what they have that shuttle you to Mackinac Island?

Big ones will do 55 mph  (that's like 150 cars and 500 passengers). Just saw that on the science channel.

Small ones 60 - 70 mph.
