How fast do motorboats sink?

my friend has, or should i say had a 2002 idk the model, boat that crashed into a rock. i tore a 4 inch gash in the hull and flooded in between the inside of the boat and the hull. the cracks started spitting out water and he knew that the boat would sink. he was within reasonable distance of the dock, and motioned for help. this boat had a watertight door in the front that was designed to keep water OUT OF THE FRONT, NOT THE MAIN PART, AND HE SHUT THE DOOR

a boat came out and rescued him. he got in the boat, which i was in, and we watched his motorboat sink.

he really didn't time how long until it sank, so does anyone know how long it would normally take to make a boat like that sink??

PS i think it was a honda motorboat

  1. Every boat is very different from one another, some boats will litterly sink in less then a minute and others could take up to several hours.

Boats that sink slower generally have more floatation devices built into the boat where as the ones that sink immediately don't.

Some boat's such as the Boston Whaler are unsinkable.

Generally speaking boats that do float longer cost more.

    Hope this helps

  2. wow that would have been a good experience and im not sure it depends how big the boat is and if the hull is one big section or it has big rooms with doors.
