How fast do the London Tube Trains travel??

Went on the Tube for the first time yesterday on a visit to London. Was amazed at how fast they go! Anyone have a speed for this trains??

The speed depends on time, if they are running late the driver will increase the speed. Outside up to 70 mph and in the tunnels 50 mph. It's a cost based thing

Labour MP Michael p***s passed a law restricting them to 40 mph underground in 1961. It has never been repealed due to a lack of parliamentary time.

I went on the central line today n it was about 35mph, however in Tokyo they hit speeds of 150mph.
