How fast do the National trains travel?

National Rail..as so called in London run around the country..but i don't know how fast they can travel in peak running times. Are they really fast?

  1. i think 125 mph but when you are at city 75 mph


  2. Which is "National rail"?  In Britain there is no more state owned operating company of railways...  There are several private companies and the fastest trains run on the London-Edinburgh line, as was previoulsy signaled.

  3. intercity 125 is running at 125 miles per hour

  4. At the moment the fastest is 125mph - though the trains are capable of more, that is the maximum speed with the current signaling. Faster would require new incab signaling

    Fastest trains in service on the classic lines (as opposed to the High Speed line through kent) are the GNER Mallard trains whith a top speed of 160mph in testing and a 140mph in service speed - though limited to 125 by the signalling
