Venus Williams was clocked at 127 today. The men can't be much faster. In fact, I bet she is faster than a lot of men.

  1. Mostly, men serve at about 115-125 mph as a normal first serve.

A normal second serve would be about 95-110 mph.

A guy like Roddick serves about 135-145 under real pressure situations.

Ivo Karlovic, the 6'10" Croatian, serves about 130 mph for each first serve, and about 120 mph for each second serve. Talk about big serving!

A 127 mph serve isn't normal for Venus Williams, but she can serve up there!!!

  2. Mens first serve speeds average around 120mph-135mph.  Venus does not average that 127 speed.  Men average that.

  3. Taking the averages out of the question, I think Venus can serve faster than some of ATP men and even ace them a couple of times. I remember Serena aced Novak a couple times in a mixed doubles with Mardy Fish.

  4. Here is 2 sites discussing serves in general.  Some male professionals hit 150mph.

  5. yup the first serves average around 120-140 mph (I serve at 110-115 and I am 13 )

  6. Yes, I believe her serves are faster than alot of men, but Baghdatis, Djockovic, and especially Roddick are faster for sure.

Roddicks' record is 153 at the Stella Artois championshps!

Some players can surprise you with these serves sometimes!

  7. actually the fastest serve by a man was served at 153 mph by Andy Roddick during a Stella Artois Championship match!!!! that's pretty fast!!!!!:D

  8. "The fastest service ever measured was one of 163.6 mph by William Tatem Tilden (1893-1953) (US) in 1931." 73 m/s

  9. Well the fastest for men is 154 mph by Roddick.   I'd say the average speed would be about 125 mph.
