9.69 seconds for 100 meters is 10.3199 meters/second which translates to approximately 23.0849979 miles/hour :)

keep in mind that this is Usain Bolt's AVERAGE for the whole race starting from a complete stop. His top speed will actually be faster than this

Just divide the distance (like 100m) by the time and u get the average speed in m/s.For MPH multiply that number by 2.215.

e.g. Usain Bolt 100m=100/9.69=10.32m/s * 2.215 = 22.86 MPH.

convert meters per second to kilometers per hour

100 divided by 9.69 equals to 10.32m/s

10.32 multyplied by 3600 equals 37152

divide by 1000 equals 37.152km/h

divide by 1.6 equals to 23.22 miles per hour

Without a radar gun on the runner, you won't find out in simple calculations.  You'll have an average yes, but you won't know top speed since is varies throughout the whole run....and some runners even slowdown near the end.

the question is top speed, not average speed. if you dont know the answer or have trouble understanding english stick to your face book page.

bolt: approx 48 km / h for the 100m,this is an estimation based on a graph that was constructed. interstingly it is most likely the 200m where athletes reach their top speed; at around the 130m mark (this also is an estimation; 50km / h). i would behappy to know the exact figures.

for imperial conversion work it out youself, im in the 21st cen.

The following is for Usain Bolt the Jamaican Olympic Champion and World Record Holder:

9.69 seconds in the 100 meters is 23.085 mph

19.30 seconds in the 200 meters is 23.180 mph.

These speeds are the speed it took to complete the 100 and 200 meter distances. The top speeds during the race have not been calculated but you can estimate them to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 25 MPH.
