Not very fast. When trained correctly, im sure you could get a pony to do pretty well... but ordinarily, a horse can run a lot faster...

Although if you ask my opinion, ponys are GREAT teachers.

I knew a little girl who had a pony for YEARS, and she would barrel race the pony all the time, and get 3rd and 4th places...

now she has advanced to horses and is a very successful in the 4-h shows.

she does VERY well!

my sister had this 12.2 hand 32 + pony and she won barrels every time with a 17.

well, i know 2 ponies that are FAST. one is a shetland i think and the other is a bit bigger than that. the bigger one won first in nationals this year. i think she can run it around 15-16. the shetland can run it in the 15s. these are standard size patterns... 75x75 ft. and 60x80 ft.

Well it depends on the pony and it depends on the courses/arena. Things are subject to change. But last weekend I saw a cute Quarter Pony run a 16 Second course!

It depends on the size of the pattern and the size of the pony. I have seen many ponies run just as fast as regular sized horses. A pony is good to start with if you fit the pony, but you will probably go farther on a horse.
