  1. The F-16 (Fighting Falcon) has a maximum speed of 1,500 mph (Mach 2 at sea level).   One other answerer said 1.6.....note the next paragraph.......the 1500MPH is most likely for short bursts (escape)

To be noted, any time the military states the capability of their equipment, whether it be ships or aircraft......the stated performance is generally UNDERSTATED.  I am guessing the numbers the public is told is normal operating conditions.  An example is that nuclear aircraft carrier speed is STATED at 26 or so knots (1 knot = 1.15077945 mph).........it is very much capable of at near twice that speed on open and calm waters, and only for short bursts.  Any longer, the harmonics from the engines, shafts and prop (Screws),  the ship would likely shake itself apart

  2. Just type it into google and it calculates it. For example just type in 800 knots in miles per hour- http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=800+...

  3. 800 knots = 920.623558 mph

  4. The F-16 top speed is Mach 1.6

    Mach 1 is 760 mph.

This would make make Mach 1.6 = 1216 mph.

I am certain about this.  Check those 2 websites to verify my answer.  Bye now :~)

  5. 1 Knot is about 1.16 Mph

Cant help you with the speed of an F-16

  6. As the F-16 is still in military service, its performance figures are still classified, and you can't find out things like how fast it can go.  But it certainly is a lot faster than 800 knots, which is 920 miles per hour.  (One knot is 1.15 miles per hour.)

A good guess would be about twice that fast, or around 1800 to 2000 miles per hour.

  7. Red line on an F-16 is 800 KCAS (calibrated airspeed, for intents and purposes = indicated).  At cross over, where Mach takes precedence, it's 2.06 [Block 32 big mouths with the GE engine].

This is because the Viper doesn't have a fence like the F-4 or F-15 and the shape of the intake keeps the sonic shock wave off the front blades.

Highest I ever heard of was 840 KCAS, that was in a small mouth Block 30, before the airplane came apart (fan broke up as the shock wave reached it); the pilot got out with the only injury a strained thumb from holding on the ejection handle too long.

My personal best was 814 at 6000 feet (1.67M for the conditions).

  8. At altitude an F-16 will do Mach 2, approximately 1500 mph.  Even though designed and built in the mid 70's (over 30 years) is is still considered the most maneuverable fighter in the sky, able to structurally pull 9G's without sustaining any damage.  It has a ferry range of about 2000 miles, but more importantly it has the capability of flying fully loaded 500 miles, loiter there for a while, deliver it's weapons with pinpoint accuracy, and return.  It is the cheapest fighter in our inventory by far also.

  9. You have your answer on the speed. Keep in mind that the F16 must use afterburner to get to that speed, so it can't stay there for very long all all. Afterburner consumes, what we refer to in the military as, a buttload of fuel, which would cut it's mission short. That's one of the reasons we have tankers.

  10. no mach 1 is 780mph f-16 goes about 998
