  1. They grow very fast and produce a good shade cover because of their big leaves.  I have a huge old tree in my yard.  The wood is soft and it drops limbs a lot especially in ice storms.  I can't really recommend them. Ours seems to attract bugs and has terrible witches broom and the trunk has split a bunch of times.  It is probably about thirty years old.  I think we may have to take it out soon. I wish I could give you mine.  The only thing I think mine has going for it is that it doesn't have mulberrys and it does give a lot of shade.  I would grow something that is more insect resistent and has nice fall color if I were you.  Try a Beech tree or nyssa sylvatica (Black Gum) or a Ginkgo. Unusual and not so much chance of them falling over in an ice storm or a hurricane.  Oh well I don't actually know where you live so maybe it will work in your location.  Good luck with it.

  2. Mulberry trees tend to grow an average of four to six feet per year, but it can vary greatly depending on the conditions of its environment.
