  1. Give me the weight of the plane.

737 can land at 155knots (about)

Varies by planes and their weight. usually its anywhere from 140 knots to 180 knots.

  2. A small Cessna 172 will land at about 50-60 knots (~100 km/h).

A typical airliner will land anywhere between 120-140 knots. (215-250 km/h).

  3. on average 250 MPH

  4. It depends on what type of plane.  A General Aviation Aircraft might hit somewhere around 80-85 kts where as a Boeing or airbus might touch down at 180-200 kts.

  5. For something like a 757 the landing speed is normally around 150 mph horizontally, with a sink speed of perhaps 20 feet/second

  6. Every aeroplane has a different landing speed, a light aircraft would be around 50mph, an airliner about 120 mph and some fighter aircraft about 180mph.

  7. Depends on many things, but usually about 200 mph.

  8. Please don't say "HIT the runway."  The point is to touch down smoothly, and not "HIT" anything.

Most light planes are designed to touch down at a vertical speed of up to 300 feet per minute without sustaining damage.  For transport aircraft that goes up to about 500 FPM.  But you lose your job if you do that.

The forward speed for the landing maneuver ranges from about 50-80 MPH for a single engine light plane to 140-160 MPH for a transport jet.

But please, please don't say "hit the runway!"  Okay?  That's what we are trying to keep from doing.

    Thanks.

  9. The landing speed of any aircraft is determined by make and model of aircraft, gross weight, wind, and weather factors.  Technically this speed is Vso, the stalling speed of the aircraft in a landing configuration and this information is in the current aircraft flight manual.  Each aircraft will have a flight manual, which will give the pilot charts to check Vso and gross weight of the aircraft with.

Each aircraft will have a different land speed or stall speed for 20mph to 160+mph depending of max weight and weather conditions.

So to answer your question correctly we would have to know the make of model of aircraft you want the landing speed of.

  10. When you mean how fast, do you mean how fast is it travelling horizontally or vertically?

Almost all airplanes hit the runway vertically less than a 100 feet per minute, which is like less than traveling 2 feet per second.

However, the horizontal speed varies greatly.

Glides can land at speeds below 40 mph, while large comerical airliners will land at around 150-170 mph.

It depends on the design of the wing, the wing loading, and most importantly, when it will stall.

Almost all aircraft basically stall (sometimes fully, sometines partically) upon landing. If they did not stall, they would have too much lift and bounce after hitting the runway or they would have to be angled flat or  slightly downwards to prevent excessive floating.

So most aircraft will attempt to touchdown on the runway at their stall speed.

  11. hopefully it doesn't hit the runway but touches down smoothly

the speed at which planes touch down on landing depends on the aeroplane, they all have different landing speeds, but typically its the same as the stall speed, which again varies from plane to plane
