The lead out men will typically bring the sprinters to the line doing about 40+ mph and when they get close to the line the sprinters will slingshot around the lead rider generating as much as 2,000 watts of power going about 50+ mph. It doesn't hurt to have a light but stiff bike to accelerate fast. All it takes is lots of money and training to get there. Bike racing is a very expensive sport. That's why the pros have sponsors.
