Question:

How fast does my broadband upload speed need to be to use a webcam?

The site I read said it needed to be a "certain" speed, but didn't specify what that speed was.

And how I do find out what my upload speed is anyway?

Also, if my connection is slow, would it work better with a cheaper, less-good webcam because it uses less resources?

Thanks for any help you can give me (complete novice).

  1. Your upload speed would have to be at least 64k but 128k or higher would be better... and yeah I suppose the lower the resolution the less speed it would take to send. You can seed you upload speed at any internet speed test site.... just type speed test into any search engine

  2. i hate 512kbps (download speed 64KB/s and upload 32KB/s) and it works just great!

  3. Technically you can run a webcam at any speed.. but if you want more than .001 fps (frames per second) then 48 mbps is a good one to be at. Anything above that whould work just fine.

And also, what I say isn't 100% true. It really depends on how "high-tech" your webcam is and what resolution/graphic settings you're at.
