ive been looking at going on a cruise and at sea they said that they travel at 18 knots and i wonder how fast that is in mph?

Fast? It depends on the type, the length, design, and the purpose of the boat/ship. If is a sailboat it is very fast. I've done  24hr. at 17kts on a 63' catamaran.  I got a speeding ticket for 75mph  in a 5mph  lake in Ca. That was done with a hi- mi powered 14' flat bottomed "Hondo" back in '73. Aircraft carriers exceed 35kts.
