Temperture is the only factor in determing MACH-

Because temp decreases with altutiude, then people belive that it is becasue of alittude.. but what temp, as this can be a big factor in the actual speed, but 15 x the speed of sound is the answer.

One Mach is equal to the speed of sound so mach 15 is fifteen times the speed of sound. Sound travels at (roughly) 761.2 mph at sea level so Mach 15 is roughly 11418 mph at sea level. sound travels faster the higher in altitude you go, if you are 2000 feet above sea level, sound will travel slightly faster than it would at sea level. And one other point... sound travels at different speeds through different mediums, so the speed of sound will be different when traveling through water compared to traveling through air (just as an example).

And note to Trevor, the Space Shuttle accellerates from a perfect standstill (0 mph) to mach 22.9 in less than 9 minutes to get to orbit. So you are wrong that Mach 15 is faster than the Space Shuttle goes.
