This question is actually impossible to answer without more details.  Both Jet Skiis and speed boats come in a wide range of horsepowers and hull designs.  In general, I think that most newer Jet Skiis are faster than your run of the mill speed boat.

I think most wave runners and jet skis are quicker than the average speed boat, but they usually have similar top speeds.

Of course, it really depends on the model.  Many higher end wave runners can go 65-70mph+, which would require a very hot boat to keep up with.

You have to keep in mind that wave runners are much lighter and smaller than speed boats.  It's kind of like comparing rice burner motorcycles to high performance cars.
