  2. How strong the wind blows is very relative. I have sailed all my life but without any wind measuring instrument. For me, the wind has three forces: Not enough, enough and too much. But that is all relative to how I feel, where I am, etc.

    The British Admiral Beaufort designed a scale of wind based not on how fast it goes but on how we register the wind. It is called the Beaufort Scale:

    This is what is used still today for weather forecast at sea.
