Question:

How fast should I be spinning my clothes in the washer?

I have a front loader washing machine and it has a dial for spinning...the options are from no spin up to extra high. My washer and dryer are the smaller apartment size version so I would like to set the spin as high as possible so the clothes are not as wet when they go into the dryer. But, I'm not sure what the effects are on my clothes if I was to set the spin too high.

  1. High spin should be fine for cottons, linens, and polycotton blends.  Probably also fine for polyester and nylon (but read the care tags).  I would use a medium speed for rayons and silks, as both fibers are weaker when wet.

  2. You will have to experiment on which spin cycle would work

best for you since all dryers are a little different.

  3. I think I can help you.  My old front loader had 6 settings for the spin cycle, we found that the middle one was sufficient for most laundry.  Any higher and the problem I found was that even though it got out a little more water, it also would spin in more wrinkles that did not come out in the dryer.  So my suggestion is use the lowest setting first and see how dry they come out, you may be surprised it it still more than your old top loader did.  If that isn't enough, move it up on more and so on, until you have the lowest you can deal with, but not so high you have wrinkles in everything.  My new one only has high and low setting.  We do fine on the low spin setting.  It still spins more than enough to get the fabrics devoid of water, but not enough to spin in wrinkles.  The dry has a moisture setting and I notice with the new one, it rarely takes more than 30 minutes to dry something.  And on the clothesline, most stuff is dry on a nice sunny day in about 15-20 minutes.  Hope this helps you and congratulations on your new washer!
