i currently run a 5:41 mile and 2:30 in the 800. it is kind of hard to tell if i can break a 5 minute mile eventually from my current time, but i think i can gauge it better with an 800 time.

  1. It really depends on the person. Some people can run a mile in 5:00 and their top 800 time is like 2:28, but they can run 5 minute miles all day. From my high school days the guys that could run a solid sub 5 minute mile outdoors could run an 800m in about 2:00-2:06 I'd say. 800m is my favorite race, actually. Best of luck, mate. When I was 17y/o I could run a mile in the 4:40's and my best 800m was 1:59, but I could usually hit around 2-2:03

  2. well your 800 time is where it should be compared to your current mile...i ran a 2:17 followed by a 5:03 mile (2 seconds slower then y p.r.(personal record) keep up the good work you can get 5 min especially if you follow that Winter Base idea i mentioned in your can i run a 5min mile question

  3. It really depends on the type of runner you are. Are you built for speed and applying distance or are you build for distance and are trying to apply speed?

What i mean by that is I've seen people that can run about a 5 minute mile and also run under 2:10 for 800 meters. I've also seen people that can run about 5 minutes for a mile and barely break 2:20. I think the more training that you do--and deciding whether making times for 200 meter repeats or maintaining a good consistent pace for long runs is easier--will help to focus your training in which direction is better suited for you.

  4. 2:15. Short and simple.
