Question:

How fast will I run?

I'm 37, thin and get plenty of strength exercise at work. I haven't really run much for about 15 years. If I start doing a reasonable amount of training from tomorrow, what sort of time can I expect to do the 400m in 6 months time?

  1. i would think that would would get to about a 60-70 seconds and that would be pretty good.

  2. If you have natural speed, that should compensate for your decade and a half without running, and you'll run a decent time (60-70sec) but why would a 37 year old train for the 400m? If you're going to spend 6 monthes training, train for a 5k / 10k so you can enter some races. You'll still be able to run the 400 but you can actually be in a real race...

  3. Well the best way to go about this would be to time yourself now in the 400m. That way you have an idea of where you are at and can set goals for where you want to be.

Under 1 minute is a pretty good time after you have been training for a few months. It depends on how hard you train and where you are at now.
