  1. 160 km/h

  2. I had a 2006 Burgman 650, and took a digital photo of the dash diplaying 126 mph. I do not know the percentage of speedometer error, but if the dash said 126, the actual speed was slower. I have never seen a speedometer that displayed a lower speed than actual.

I've been upwards of 165mph on some of my other bikes, and the YZF1000, CBR1000, CBR600F2 (racebike) all were very stable at that speed. That does not mean the WIND wasn't a major factor- you still must hold a tight tuck so that your body doesn't grab the air and upset the bike.  My T509, ZRX1100, and FZ600 wouldn't go past 145, but they were still stable.  I mentioned all of that to establish a sort of baseline for my opinion.  At top speed the Burgman WAS unstable.  I only went that fast twice. The first time just to see if it would show 125, the second time was to photograph it.  Still, going 125 on a machine that can barely do it isn't fun. Going 125 on a machine that will do 170? Now that's fun :) Stupid, but boy it speeds up your metabolism.

By the way, "rider skill" has absolutely no effect on a machine's stability at speed. It would be more like "rider common sense."

  3. the engine will top at around 80 mph in 6th gear, but the ride get unstable unless your a very skilled rider at the speed.

  4. Slower than a Kymco Xciting 500 which is the one they trade a Burgman in to get.

  5. I've ridden both 400 and the 650. I did not notice instability in either one. My estimate of top speed on the 650 Burgmann is 95 - 100 mph.

Top speed on the 400 was 85mph.
