  1. 49cc is the displacement. That means that the engine is 49 cubic centimeters in the combustion chambers. The speed really depends on the size of the scooter and the surroundings like road condition. Regardless, it would not be advisable to take it on any road where the average speed is over 30mph. Even if the scooter could go that fast, it would be very dangerous and unwise. When you drive a scooter, you are an even smaller, slower target than a motorcycle, so therefore it can be dangerous (especially around trucks and large sedans).

  2. One of the faster 50cc scooters is the Kymco Super 9.  There are a lot of after market parts available for this bike that can get it going 70+MPH no sweat.  Yes, you read that correctly ;)

  3. 49cc is the displacement rating of the engine - the amount of fuel and air that it can draw into the combustion chamber. In other words, its size, not necessarily power. Generally scooters of this size can have a top speed of 35 mph up to 50 or more. The scooter dealership should be able to give you a closer figure. Keep in mind, that's the maximum speed, and it could take a long time to reach that speed. So if having some power in reserve is important, opt for a larger engine.

  4. 49 cc means the size of the engine. Those scooters go about 40 MPH, i just bought one recently (http://www.xtrememinimotors.com) and it really goes. Its fabulous and the guy was really helpful!
