I'm so freaking behind in school. I don't even know what an equator is. XD <3

Then again, this is suppose to be a question in a game for highschoolers. I'm only just entering middle school. Or maybe I am just really dumb.. xD

The answers can either be;

"About 420 km/hour."

"About 850 km/hour."

"About 1,700 km/hour."

Please only answer if you're sure~~!

  1. The earth rotates once a day. At the equator the earth is roughly 25,000 miles in circumference. 24 hrs a day/25,000 miles = a little over 1,000 mph. A mile is longer than a km so the only answer that works would be 1,700

  2. Well, consider - the Earth's about 24,900 miles around at the equator, and it rotates once in 24 hours (That means, the sun gets back to the same longitude in 24 hours) so, it's a little faster than 1000 MPH.

  3. The circumference of the earth at the equator is 60 x 360 = 21600 nautical miles. Thus the speed of rotation = 21600/24 = 900 nautical miles per hour or 1035 statute mile per hour. That would be 1666 km/hr or about 1700km/hr

  4. The reference number is 469 m/s or more correct 1688.84 km/h

  5. So if the Earth is a ball, and you cut it horizontally in half in the middle, that's the equator. Please don't cut the Earth in half - i still live there.

    The Earth is about 25,000 miles in diameter, and rotates once a day, say 24 hours. So that's a hair over 1000 miles per hour. It's a little more than 1.6 km/mile, so it must be about 1,700 km/hour.

    The only things i knew off the top of my head was the circumference of the Earth and more or less the size of a mile in km. But you could just look it up in Wikipedia. Oh, and convert m/s to km/hour.

  6. About 40,000 km/24 hour.

    So divide 40,000 by 24.

    That's around 1667 km/hour.
