their are several setups.I'm only familar with one.Equipment needed-surf rod,extra rod(broken or bottom half of split rod ok)with large bait casting reel,punch baloon,6 to 8 inch planer board,quick realease.)Inflate baloon, attach planer board to hole where rubber band has been removed with heavy mono line in top hole of planer board. attach quick realease end of planer board.attach line from extra reel to hole in baloon.secure extra reel to shore(rod holder).secure surf rod to shore(rod holder).attach line from surf rod to quick realse with bait or lure.with bait attach atleast three quarter oz. sinker.this will make realeasing bait easyer.Realease spool on extra reel and open bail on surf rod.Take baloon setup out as far as you can.Release baloon.When baloon is out as far as you want it.Lock down spool on extra reel.Close bail on surf rod,pull online to realse bait or lure and start fishing.
