I have a toilet handle that broke off so I am trying to replace it. But when I I try to turn the nut to come off it will only turn a little and now it has stopped turning. What remains of the handle on the other side is not turning but this nut will not turn. How can I get it off? thanks

  1. It is usually a thin plastic or tin nut, on the inside of the tank around the tube the handle goes through, and the whole handle assembly comes out through the hole. Some of them have a nut on the outside for decoration. But if this is not the nut you cant turn, cut or break off the rod that goes through the tube so you can pull it out, then grab the outside with a pliers or vice grip, and try to turn the nut again. If you still cant, cut the nut with a wire cutter or hack saw. You could try with a chisel, but remember, porcelain breaks, be careful.

  2. use penetrating oil and spray nut, let stand for few minuets then try turning it again, keep repeating this process it should work. use a socket and ratchet, this will make it easier .

just in case, righty tighty lefty loosy.

  3. are u using a wrench?

  4. Check that you are turning in the correct direction by reversing your rotation. If that doesn't do it cut through the nut on the inside of the toilet tank with a good fine tooth hacksaw blade.

  5. You can always cut it off if it's plastic. If it's metal, try WD40.

  6. vise grips both sides turn opposite directions until it comes loose or breaks off

  7. How do you get a nut off your toilet? Try turning the light off on him maybe that will get him out of there. If that doesn't work you could always yell fire and see if he comes running out or maybe tell him there's a giant squirrel coming to get him.

How did that nut get on your toilet anyways? Well, good luck.

  8. you need to turn it clockwise, as if you were tightening it

  9. As ben s says, it is a left hand thread.

  10. If all else fails and you have access to a drill......take the biggest drill bit and drill through the middle outside to inside  and this should weaken  it enough to dismantle! Good luck.
