How golf tournaments raise funds for charities?
Fundraising is a process in which monetary contributions are collected by organizations or individuals for specific purposes. These are usually done by non-profit organizations, purely to help out the underprivileged people.
For many years now, golf tournaments have been raising funds for the needy people. In the golf tournaments held to support community service programs, the winnings are not given to the players. On the contrary, they are given to the people who are in real
need.
When it comes to golf charity events, there are two types. One is for the celebrities and the other is for the general public.
In the charity events which include celebrities, money is usually collected by selling the tickets to the people who come to watch the match.
These sort events are attended by one of the most renowned celebrities. The celebrities attract huge masses of people.
The other way in which money is collected is through sponsors. The events attended by celebrities often have many sponsors, who give enormous amounts of sponsorship. This sponsorship is also included in charity.
Some of the golf charity events do not include any celebrities. These sorts of events are attended by the common people. In these tournaments the funds are collected from the people. They are charged to play golf and sometimes other methods such as auctions
are used to raise funds.
The public pays a huge amount of cash in these auctions. This has been a very successful and effective way to raise funds.
Till now there have been many golf tournaments to raise funds. Some are famous all over the world and have gained enough popularity to be organized every year.
Some of the tournaments attended by celebrities are the American Century Championship (Lake Tahoe, Nevada), the Detroit Red Wings Annual Charity Golf Tournament (Metropolitan Detroit, Michigan) and Trashmaster's Internation Pro-Am (Aspen, Colorado).
Some of these public tournaments are Reed Financial Services Charity Golf Tournament (Nashville, Tennessee), the Waddell, the Whale Quest Kapalua Tournament (Kapalua Resort, Hawaii) and the Skylar Neil Charity Golf Tournament (Simi Valley, California).
One of the biggest fund raiser golf events is the Morongo golf tournament. This tournament is to support the people who have cleft palate in their family and the people who are homeless in Southern California.
This tournament has raised up to $60,000 for charity. It is one of the largest charity events. About 370 golfers take part in this event each year. This event was launched in 1996 for the first time.
In the 16th Morongo golf tournament the co-chairman of the event, Charles Martin said, “This year’s Morongo Charity Golf Tournament was an overwhelming success and it was extremely humbling to see so many golfers come out to support the community,
especially in such a tough economy”.
“This year’s charitable event benefitted three organizations: Shawnee’s Smile/Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital Foundation, the Dream Center Foundation and the Fred Jordan Mission,” he continued.
Over the years these fund raisers have helped many people who are in need. These events are playing a big part in helping out the less fortunate people.
We should all learn from them and should help out people enthusiastically. If that is not possible, one can at least volunteer in the organisations who organise such events to help them in this noble cause.
