I found some Celestron Omni 1.25" eyepieces on sale and bought a 15mm and 6mm. They seem pretty good to me but I haven't tried a wide range of eyepieces. How do these fare against other sub-$100 eyepieces?

  1. Skip 'em. You want Meade Research Grade eyepieces. Buy those instead.

  2. Celestron optics are a good quality and compare favorably to other

    high end optics manufacturers brands.

  3. I have two Omni eyepieces, a 40mm and a 4mm. I find the 40mm is great! It gives a really good bright view at low magnification. The other answerer says the field of view is bad - it's 42 degrees. I don't know if that is good or bad.

I find the 4mm eyepiece gives a very dim view, but that's because of my telescope. I didn't notice any problem with the eye relief in this eyepiece.

  4. These are typical Chinese Plössl eyepieces, similar to the Orion Sirius series and many house brands. The longer focal lengths tend to be better than the short ones, except for the 40mm, which should never be chosen instead of the 32mm, because of its narrow apparent field of view. In particular, the 9mm and shorter focal lengths have extremely close eye relief, and are quite uncomfortable to use.
